Income Tax Pan Aadhaar Linking: How to Link Aadhaar Number With PAN Card Online

According to Salary Slip, The Income Tax Department reminded taxpayers to link their PAN with Aadhar before 31st May 2024 if it is not linked. The notice also states that the income tax PAN aadhaar linking last date was 31st May 2024, and if it is not done linking before the day, it may result in tax deduction/collection (TDS/TCS) at a higher rate under Sections 206AA and 206CC of the Income Tax Act, 1961. This is because of using an inoperative PAN for transactions made before March 31, 2024.

Even after the deadline, and even if your PAN card is inoperative, you can link your PAN with an Adhaar card, however, a fine of Rs 1,000 is levied.

In this blog, we are covering the importance of income tax PAN aadhaar linking and the process to do it.

What is the Importance of linking PAN with Aadhaar card?

The PAN card of a person is an identity proof containing a ten-character alphanumeric identifier unique to every individual in India. It is issued by the Income Tax department and is legal identity proof. Although having a PAN card is not mandatory, it is important for high-value financial transactions, etc.

As issued by the Income Tax Department, linking PAN with Aadhaar is mandatory. The significance of PAN- Aadhaar linking are as follows:

  • The PAN card of a person will become inactive if it is not linked to an Aadhaar card.
  • Further, it is also important while filing the income Income Tax Return (ITR). The IT department may reject the ITR if PAN and Aadhaar are not linked.
  • It is important to submit PAN and Aadhaar cards while getting government services, like applying for a passport, obtaining a gas connection, and opening a bank account. In short, it is difficult to access government services without PAN-Aadhaar linking.
  • If the old PAN card is damaged or lost, getting a new PAN may be difficult if both are not linked. It is compulsory to mention the Aadhar card number while applying.
